I really didn’t even start today planning to write a Blog post, but with such a momentous occasion as “International Women’s Day”, how could I resist?….

My husband made a quip last night along the lines of “Isn’t EVERY day Women’s Day?..” (yes honey, you’re hilarious), and my oldest son made a Facebook post today saying “International women’s day is great coz it helps the girls feel better about every Saturday being for the boys” (again, hilarious dude!)

Now, while these kinda light hearted comments ARE pretty funny, and in a country like ours we are really lucky that the worst we might come up against is sexist behaviour, glass ceilings, and gender pay gaps…it’s a great opportunity to look out for the sisterhood on a broader scale.

It’s not about bra burning and feminism (although EVERYONE should be a feminist – even the men!!! If you love a mother, sister, wife, girlfriend, or daughter – you should want them to be treated equally with everyone else!!!) – it’s about celebrating what we bring to the world.

We don’t want to be the same as men…Bless their cotton socks, men are awesome and have traits we could never match…but by the same token, WE bring traits to the world that can’t be matched (in general) by the blokes.  TOGETHER, men and women make this world amazing.

According to the official Website:

International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

International Women’s Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Prior to this the Socialist Party of America, United Kingdom’s Suffragists and Suffragettes, and further groups campaigned for women’s equality.

Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.

IWD is not country, group or organization specific.

Make IWD your day – everyday.
